2020 Mid Year Reflections

Image
Introduction Let me start this post by saying, what a year of 2020 and can you believe it is only half way through? Global Pandemic, Oil Crisis, China Trade War, George Floyd, US Election, Global Recession Worries and many more still yet to come. Year 2020 is definitely something that will be in my memory for quite some time and there are much I want to talk about. A single post of blog or even a series of blogs may not be enough, however I just decided to document some of my top reflections so far and may be when things are moving along there will be additional that I want to add or change. This post will be more or less for myself for record purpose. The content may be dry and boring compared to rest of the posts in my happy travel blog. There Is Always Hope The current pandemic is probably the worst global crisis I have personally experienced so far and the last time I felt a bit like this (not even close, to be honest) would be the day when Boston locked down the w...

4 Things that Shocked Me The Most Living in Amsterdam (Potentially Europe)

Image
Introduction So till now I have been living in Amsterdam, Netherlands for roughly a month and there are a lot of things that I found quite different here compared to US (which I have been living for 7 years) and Asia (born and raised till 17). I found that it would be quite interesting to share my top 4 list on what’s in my opinion very unique in Europe: No.1 - “The bathroom” or you mean “The toilet” I’m not kidding but the moment when I first stepped into the men’s bathroom in my office building, I definitely hesitated and double checked if I went to the correct one. What I saw are the three rooms with the locked door and I did not find the common pee areas that can be normally find in any of the bathroom in the US or Asia.  The bathroom layout definitely remind me of somewhat the more “high-end” or “elegant” European life style compared to US or Asia. Another thing that worth mentioning is even in the apartment that I rented, the bathroom and the shower too...

How do I Get All My Elite Statuses in A "Short" Period of Time?

Image
Introduction Recently I have been asked by a lot my colleagues and friends about how can I have so many elite statuses as well as points in all different hotel, airline and credit card programs. In this blog, I will be covering the major steps to score all those statuses and evaluate is it really worth it or not (from my own perspective). My Statuses Overview Below are the major statuses I have ever owned as of 3/18/17: My first flight status earned is with United because I flew back and forth between China and US a lot and United had some very convenient routes between EWR and PVG. Back then there was no direct flight between BOS to any major city in China so I scored my united Gold status in one year by simply flight ~4 round trips to China (Good old days when the elite qualifying miles are actually earned by miles you fly not the price you pay). My first hotel status came a little bit later when I did my internship as a consultant in Tampa in 2014. It was the Pr...

Comprehensive Review on “The Lounge” in Boston Terminal C

Image
Overview Our flight was delayed for 4 hours this Sunday. Rather than sitting uncomfortably near the gate doing nothing but fighting for a plug-in, I bought two access passes to “The Lounge” in Terminal C through Lounge Buddy (Use code "8ToFeeDHnU" to receive $10 credits!). This app is pretty cool especially if you use Tripit also because it can automatically sync your airport information from itinerary and provide with you which lounge you have access to and reviews. Besides, it also comes with a $25 coupon if you have Tripit Pro subscription in the end I bought a pass for two for $53 which I felt like is a pretty good deal. In this blog, I will be doing a comprehensive review on this lounge with the focus on the accessibility & availability, drinks & food, seating & view and other features. Accessibility & Availability Compared to some lounge which only provides the exclusive access toward certain level of elite members or card holders, The Lounge is ...
